Mistress Spring’s Winter Waltz

crocus snow

Spinning, dipping, waltzing
She dances through the lawn;
teases the maple;
whispers secrets to the dawn.

Waltzing through the boxwoods,
She flicks the tabby’s tail;
winks at the dogwood,
While snatching Tommy’s mail.

Spying Jack Frost hiding
behind the window flap,
she flirtatiously,
snatches off his icy cap.

“People seek the touch of
spring in January!
Enjoy your day off!
Come! Sing, dance, and be merry!”

She called out joyously
as she went waltzing past.
Jack Frost shook his fist,
“Mistress Spring, you’ll never last!”
