A Visit Home

Walking in the twilight
Listening to the birds
Singing their good night songs
Soaking in the beauty
Of the sun setting behind
The lush green mountains.
It’s good to be home.

Wandering through the woods
Absorbing its beauty
Meditating on God’s creation
Rediscovering old hideouts;
Places where stories blossomed and bloomed,
And imagination created many fun adventures.
It’s good to be home.

Driving on Skyline Drive
Hiking to Dark Hollow Falls
Climbing on the rocks
Discovering caves
Splashing in Dry River
Picking wild black raspberries with Aunt Naomi.
It’s good to be home.

Fishing for trout together
Eating ice-cream at Dairy Queen
Sleepovers with cousins;
Visiting a dear childhood friend –
Crying, hugging, and laughing together,
Making a lot of precious new memories.
It’s good to be home.

Roasting hotdogs, mountain pies, and smores
Listening to children’s laughter as they play
Watching them create new games together – then
Climb trees, and chase each other –
Shouting, running, laughing, and
Roasting oven baked chips over the fire.
It’s good to be home.

When family gathers together at home.
